Dragonfire was one of a team of three companies that collaborated to pitch for the opening of a new £7 million research centre in Stevenage. This was a high profile event, attended by H.M. the Queen. Our partners were to handle the catering and public relations requirements; our contribution was to devise the creative presentation for the moment of the opening. The pitch was highly competitive, and involved a presentation to the Glaxo board. We proposed ideas combining aspects of celebration with direct reference to the research purpose of the building, using daytime pyrotechnic effects with kabuki reveal techniques of giant banners across the frontage of the structure. This proposal was very well received, and was the key factor in the choice of contract placement with our team. The subsequent event required considerable negotiation with the client, and meant working in a sensitive environment with significant security issues. The successful results received prominent national press and television coverage.
We were asked to provide a short display for a staff party, at a venue that imposed significant restrictions on what kind of fireworks could be used. The brief entailed a commitment that residents some 150 metres distant from the venue would be unaware of the firework display taking place. Dragonfire crafted a display of flares, fountains, wheels, comets and low level effects around the centrepiece of a lancework based on the Vodafone logo. Despite the limitations, the client praised the display as "spectacular fireworks – the highlight of the evening".
Creative imagination as well as fireworks was the key to a successful event for this client. The occasion was the trade launch for a laser printer. Dragonfire created a presentation and reveal in 300 metres of underground caves and passageways. The main reveal was presented as a magic trick, with the printer hovering in mid-air, swathed in smoke and laser light. In the evening the spectators were treated to a spectacular pyro-musical display, themed on the music from the earlier presentation.
